To many, professional wrestling has peaked in terms of popularity. In the 90s, arguably the most important era in the industry, edgy and raw was the norm, but since that time the industry never fully recovered. Fans hold on to hope that one day a product will come along that will not just be able to channel what made pro wrestling so fantastic in the 90s, but something that will even surpass that. In a day and age where the 18-45 male demographic is more intuned with fighting and more physical contact, a reason Mixed Martial Arts has been the fastest rising sport in history, in order for a professional wrestling labeled company to succeed, they must adapt.
Enter 2015, the year of The Hybrid Initiative.
Yes, we are at the end of the day a "professional wrestling" company, but we are NOT a sports entertainment entity. There will be no clowns, no circus, no popcorn and cotton-candy. The Hybrid Initiative prides itself on borrowing psychology from the Japanese approach in puroresu, the Mexican approach in lucha, the North American approach in charisma and of course, blending in aspects of boxing and mixed martial arts with the judging and round system.
An ordinary match for The Hybrid Initiative will feature Athlete A versus Athlete B in an Octagon shaped ring, with four ropes. In order to maximize those who lean in the Lucha direction, we want to make sure they are able to capitalize with their speed and agility. A regular match will feature 3, 5 minute rounds that our officials enforce a strict "No Stalling" regulation. First offense to stalling is verbal, the second offense will be the official ordering the judges to deduct a point. Judges will be using the traditional 30 point scoring system, 10 points per round for starters and it will be adjusted from there. If our matches go the distance, Unanimous Decision, Split Decision and even at times, a Draw is the finishes.
Championship matches and/or higher profile matches will use a 5, 5 minute rounds. If at the end of the 5th Round the judges are deadlocked at decision, a 6th Round will be ordered in which there will be NO time limit and a winner MUST be crowned.
The Hybrid Initiative is based out of St. Paul, Minnesota and events will be streamed via our website. The venue name has not been released yet, neither has the attendance capacity. When more information on supershows release, it will be reflected via change here.
